BRACKLEY Town U18s (pictured) finished the season in superb style with a 2-0 cup final victory against Leighton Corinthians at the Mk stadium last Saturday which secured a memorable double.

With the league title already in the trophy cabinet with a great record of winning all their games apart from one draw, Brackley went into the final in confident mood.

Town started well and created three chances in the first 20 minutes with midfielder Nick Bracey hitting the bar.

Brackley were dominant with the midfield trio of Bracey, Rob Cartwright and Jamie Fowler prompting attack after attack but Leighton packed the defence and made it difficult for Brackley to break through.

Brackley wingers Harry Brock and Lewis Gardiner were always causing the Leighton defence trouble as they poured forward but at half time the game was still in the balance at 0-0 as Leighton’s game plan seemed to be working to stifle Brackley’s flowing football.

The second half saw the Brackley front two of Tom Mitchell and Ryan Willson turn up the heat and after 20 minutes the breakthrough came when a cross was headed back across the box and central defender Ollie Goddard headed home.

It was just reward for Goddard who was a rock in the defence alongside skipper Scott Whitmore and attacking full-back Josh Markham. With a 1-0 lead Brackley pushed forward looking for the second that would see off Leighton knowing that keeper Ashley Peyton-Bruhl was in commanding form if Leighton did break away.

The second goal sealed the game as Willson jinked his way into the penalty area and was brought down. The penalty was tucked away by Harry Brock and with Leighton’s defender sent off there was no way back. Brackley introduced Harry Bailey, Alex Brookes and Jonny Millard and continued to dominate as they finished the season in style with the cup and league double.

This was the last match for the team that has been together for years and a fitting end to a terrific season.

Skipper Scott Whitmore was overwhelmed with the win, commenting: “I feel proud of the lads for doing so well over the past few seasons and now the hard work has paid off to come home with the double.”
