Buckingham Town’s heavy defeat to Horspath in Division One of the Cherwell League on Saturday was overshadowed by an horrific injury to youngster Callum Price.

Price broke his right leg and ankle as he bowled the first ball of the Horspath innings after Buckingham had been skittled out for just 87.

First team captain Ash Pearson said: “It was one of the worse injuries I have ever seen. It was a very serious injury and very distressing for all the players.”

Play was suspended for around 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive before Buckingham elected to finish the game, which finished in a seven-wicket defeat.

Pearson added: “The result was the least of our concerns.

“Callum is new to the club this year and has been excellent – he has done a lot of good stuff with bat and ball.

“Thankfully the operation went well and we just hope he will get fit and make as full a recovery as possible.”
