CRICKET: Buckingham Town 1sts wound up their Cherwell League Division One campaign last Saturday with a four wicket-loss at Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts.

The result saw them finish in sixth spot in the table, 85 points adrift of champions Shipton.

Despite the Oxford pavilion not being opened until 12.50pm the game only started three minutes late.

Buckingham won the toss and elected to bat. Ashley Pearson and Andrew Fletcher got Town off to a good start as they put on 52 in the first 10 overs.

The introduction of Shabaz Alam brought the breakthrough as he trapped Fletcher lbw for 23. Pearson continued to score quickly, bringing up his 50 in 66 balls. He didn’t last much longer as he missed an attempted slog sweep off Mark Strong and was bowled for 51.

The scoring slowed after that wicket and at drinks the score was 105-2.

Jonny Cater and Simon Myatt increased the rate after the break, taking the score to 129 before a collapse of eight wickets for 23 runs in 14 overs saw Town collapse to 152 all out. Cater remained unbeaten with 45, while Myatt went for 21.Strong took 5-43 and Alam 4-50.

Josh Nix took an early wicket in reply with the score on 15. Tim Rattigan and Shabaz Alam added 18 before both fell in consecutive overs to leave the hosts at 33-3. Ayaz Khan came in swinging, reaching 50 from 30 balls while taking 22 from one Simon Myatt over.

In partnership with Pablo Mukherjee he added 87 from 85 balls. Eventually Jason Ell had to go back to seam as he brought himself on.

It worked as in his first over he bowled Mukherjee for 20. Ell and Frank Johnson took another wicket apiece but Khan saw his side over the line, finishing 90 not out from 54 balls with eight fours and six sixes.
