Buckingham Town 1st XI fought out a home draw in a rain affected game with Great & Little Tew last Saturday in Cherwell Division One.

Buckingham won the toss and chose to field. The opening bowlers were steady, with the run rate restricted to three an over throughout their spells.

Josh Nix was successful as he took 2-20 from seven overs.

Tew’s Harry Smith (64) and Robbie Shurmer, with a useful 42, came together and set the visitors up for a decent total with a partnership of 86.

However, a spell of four wickets for two runs in 18 balls left them in trouble and although Curtly Slatter (17) and Matt Taylor (12) added 29 for the seventh wicket Great Tew were bowled out in the 51st over for 172.

James Gear took 7-43 and Nix 3-39, while Jason Ell, Vish Valambhia and Ben Stafford were out of luck.

Shortly into the Buckingham innings the game was halted for rain and an hour remained.

Buckingham were left with 32 overs and lost Steve Brunning immediately for a duck.

Ashley Pearson and Jonny Cater picked up where they left off the previous week, adding 78 in 15 overs before skipper Andy Harris broke the partnership.

Pearson went to 50 before also being removed by Harris. Andrew Fletcher (27) and Simon Myatt (12) kept the run chase going, but when their partnership was ended the innings faltered and the hosts ended up playing out the final over for a draw. Andy Harris finished with 6-51.

Town remain in fourth spot in the table, 60 points adrift of leaders Oxford Downs.
