Brackley Ist XI got back to winning ways on Saturday with an impressive win over Banbury XX.
After being put into bat skipper Eric Carpenter(pictured) and James Timmis got the innings off to a flying start as they raced to 60 in the first seven overs before Timmis missed a scoring opportunity by holing out to mid-on for 34.
Mikey Lowe and Carpenter kept up the good work as they added another 70 before Lowe went for a well constructed 44.
Dave Barnes joined Carpenter and batted with authority but it was Carpenter with his maiden century who was superb before he was finally out for 106. And when Barnes was out for 27, Carpenter declared at an impressive 240 -4.
Rob Cartwright opened the bowling for Brackley and made a breakthrough in his first over and with Josh Markham also taking two early wickets put Banbury under pressure.
The introduction of Keith Cartwright kept the pressure on and his 4-22 off 16 overs put Brackley in control but Banbury XX shut up shop at eight wickets down. With four overs to go Carpenter rotated his bowlers and with Markham breaking through it was Rob Cartwright who took the final wicket in the penultimate over bowling XX out for 113.
Carpenter said afterwards: ”It was great to register my first century but even better to get the full points and the bowlers did us proud today. With a big game against Thame coming up on Saturday we will be looking for another good performance.”
Brackley 2nds beat Bledlow Village III in Division Nine. Brackley set the hosts a target of 148, Brooker grabbing 6-20. Bledlow were dismissed for 116, Downes taking 5-41 and Wagerfield 3-20. In Division Three,
Twyford 1sts lost at Bledlow Village. Mould hit an unbeaten 76 for Bledlow as they made 124-7. Twyford in reply were dismissed for 122. Mahmood took 6-48 for Twyford and Shirley, 3-20, and Pearce, 3-28, for Bledlow.
