YOUTH FOOTBALL: Chesterton won the Witney and District Youth Football League U12 cup final for the first time in 11 years.

The team, who also finished joint top of the “A” league, beat Ducklington 3-2 in a tense match played at Carterton on Sunday. Ducklington got off to a flying start scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes and would have scored more if it hadn’t been for the heroic performance of stand-in goalkeeper Lewis Moore.

Chesterton scored 10 minutes before half time when Nathan Hopkins knocked a through-ball past the goalkeeper to take the pressure off his team.

In the second half Chesterton took control and soon equalised after some intense pressure resulted in a penalty that was coolly converted by Callum Devine. With 10 minutes to go Hopkins scored his second goal, finding the corner of the net from a free kick.
