Depleted Town trahsed by Horspath

A WEAKENED Buckingham 1st XI side suffered a heavy 147-run defeat to league leaders Horspath.

After winning the toss, skipper Jason Ell led from the front with the ball claiming two wickets in his first five overs as the hosts slipped to 31-2.

Wayne Platts then removed Joe Todd for 19 but Shahbaz Ali (74 not out) and Patrick Foster (39) recovered the innings with a partnership of 67 before Foster became Ell’s third wicket of the day.

Will Eason (48) joined Ali and the pair added 94 from 110 balls to take the momentum away from Buckingham.

After a run out had accounted for Eason, Andrew Wynd scored 17 from 11 balls to take Horspath to 242-5.

Buckingham started poorly with Eason taking four quick wickets to leave Town in ruins at 25-5.

Wayne Platts (28 not out) and James Gear (20) batted together to add 22 before Jack Biggs took two wickets in consecutive overs.

Platts continued to play sensibly but he found no support and Buckingham were scuttled out for a paltry 95.

This Saturday the first team entertain Banbury IIs in a match that starts at 1pm and is sponsored by Zinc.
