Cycling: Silver medal for Bicester youngster

Sixteen-year-old Bicester Millenium Cycling Club member Harriet Owen grabbed a silver medal at the UCI Juniors Track World Championships in Montichiari, Italy, to confirm her status as one of the country's top young riders.

Owen was second in the Women's Scratch Race 10km event behind Australian rider Amy Cure. Owen kept a cool head and followed the wheels of other riders toconserve as much energy as possible in the 40-lap racesoshe was in the best shape possible for the latter stages.

With 1.5 laps to go Owen was third when she attacked and gave it everything. She instantly got agap on the chasing bunch butwith one lap to go they were closer to catching her.

She managed tohold on all the way into the home straight when Amy Cure caught up with her, but she managed to hold off all the other riders to win the silver medal.
