Ardley United 6
Ascot United 2
After a loss and a draw in their last two matches, a Carl Standen hat-trick put Ardley back on track for the Hellenic League Premiership title.
Only three minutes had been played when Ardley’s Troy Bryan advanced on the keeper and squared the ball for Standen to open his account.
Central midfielder Stuart Bridges caused problems for Ascot and his pinpoint pass to Adam Beckett on the wide right saw him beat his defender and whip in a cross for Bryan to make it 2-0 inside eight minutes.
Still celebrating Ardley were caught napping when they allowed Phil Buddy to cross the ball and Shane Cooper-Clark headed home to reduce the arrears. The score remained 2-1 at the break.
Eight minutes into the half it was again Bridges who found Beckett wide, his cross was picked up by Standen who wrong footed his marker and put away his second of the game.
Standen’s hat-trick came shortly after when Bryan unselfishly squared the ball to him inside the box to make it 4-1.
Lee Booth pulled one back to give Ascot a glimmer of hope, but when Danny Bone was upended in the box, he picked himself and the ball up to make it five from the spot.
Andrew Stidder sealed victory for the home side five minutes into injury time.
The win saw Kevin Brock’s side pull six points clear from nearest challengers Kidlington at the top of the league.
Ardley travel to Bracknell Town this Saturday, kick-off 3pm, for more league action.
