Ardley United’s impressive start to the 2013/14 season continued with a straightforward win in the Challenge Cup at the weekend.
Of the 15 league and cup matches United have played this season, they’ve suffered defeat just twice, winning nine and drawing four.
Their latest win was their most emphatic so far, hammering Malmesbury Victoria 8-0 in the first round of the Challenge Cup.
In a game in which the visitors appeared to lack confidence, the outcome was never in doubt as Ardley took control from the first minute.
Ryan Brooks scored twice in the first quarter of an hour and Dean Smith and Chris Jackson added one each to give the home side an unassailable lead with just 30 minutes gone. Stuart Bridges made it five before Brooks completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half time to give Ardley a 6-0 lead.
The second half was a little less one-sided, but Ardley remained on top and added further goals from Troy Bryan and Callum Convey.
Malmesbury’s misery was compounded late on when they were reduced to 10 men as Scott Chilcott was sent off for a second yellow card.
Ardley United continue their league programme at home to Reading Town next Tuesday evening before heading to Oxford City Nomads next weekend.
