Ardley’s unbeaten run finally comes to an end after late drama

Oxford City Nomads scored twice in the final five minutes to bring an end to Ardley United’s unbeaten start to the season.

The first half belonged to the hosts and they were ahead inside five minutes when John Rixon’s shot squirmed through Jack Harding in the Ardley goal.

Mark Janes then put City two up before Ardley eventually got going and halved the gap when Stuart Bridges set up Ryan Brooks on the stroke of half time.

Whatever Ardley manager Kevin Brock said to his players during the break worked wonders as his men took the game by the scruff of the neck.

Continual Ardley pressure paid off in the 77th minute when Jon Gardner’s left wing cross was tapped in by Brooks to even the scores. Four minutes later, good work by Darren Beckett saw a cross flicked on by Steve Howkins for Brooks to complete his hat trick and put Ardley in front and seemingly on course for victory.

Oxford hit straight back, though, as Janes levelled things with a volley before Adam Lovegrove fired home the winner in added time.
