Ardley suffer blip in title race

Ardley United’s title charge briefly stalled at the weekend when they were held to a goalless draw by mid-table side Kidlington.

On a difficult surface, the game was a closely-fought affair that was dominated by the midfield battle and two early red cards, first Jack Quainton saw red for a second yellow before Ardley’s Harry Brock was sent off for kicking an opponent.

United then had a let-off when Dean Smith headed off the line, leaving the scores level at the break, before Ardley goalkeeper Jack Harding saved Lewis Brownhill’s penalty.

Ardley threatened themselves as Troy Bryan and Chris Jackson had chances but neither side could find a winner.

Ardley were also meant to be in action late today, Wednesday, but their cup game at Oxford City Nomads has been postponed.

This weekend, Kevin Brock’s side face a mouth-watering and potentially season-defining home encounter with second-placed Wantage Town, who are four points behind Ardley with three games in hand in the Hellenic Premier Division.
