Buckingham Athletic have been knocked out of the FA Vase after a 6-2 loss to Premier Division side Cockfosters.
Despite facing higher-ranked opponents, Athletic dominated the first 10 minutes but spurned four chances and were punished when the hosts took the lead with their first attack. Things got worse as Cockfosters doubled their advantage before Phil Martin broke clear and got Athletic back into the game.
However, a goal just before half time put the hosts in control and they scored three more, with only Martin able to reply for Athletic.
Buckingham returned to winning ways on Tuesday evening, though, beating local rivals Stony Stratford 4-1 in SSML Division One.
Following a scrappy start, the deadlock was broken on 22 minutes when Simon Hodges latched onto a loose clearance and scored a rare goal.
Stony came back into the game and deserved their equaliser that came through Ben Cutting, but Frankie Tarrant’s 30-yard screamer put Athletic back in front.
Ten minutes later Tarrant scored another brilliant solo goal as he beat two players, drove into the penalty and lashed in his second before Adam Bone sealed the win.
