Buckingham Athletic finally ended their winless run with a 5-1 victory over New Bradwell St Peter in SSML Division One on Tuesday.
Having barely played this year, Athletic have gradually slipped down the table but this victory moves them back up to 11th.
Up against the only team without a win all season, Buckingham made the worst possible start by going a goal down.
However, Athletic took the initiative after going behind and began to dictate things with Phil Martin getting a deserved equaliser.
The visitors were now in the ascendancy and five minutes later Patch Hooper gave Athletic the lead before new signing Glen Hawkins made it 3-1 at half time.
After the interval, Buckingham came out full of confidence as they pushed for the next goal – and they got it on 70 minutes through Hawkins.
A good performance from Athletic was then completed when Dave O’Dell converted a penalty late in the game.
Athletic will take some heart from this result – manager Damien Wiffin was pleased with the way they played, particularly in the second half.
This weekend, the first team are at home and take on Harpenden Town at Stratford Fields, 3.00pm kick off, while the reserves travel to Crawley Green Reserves.
