Bamber baffled by sudden Buckingham exit

FORMER Buckingham Town manager Kit Bamber has expressed his frustration and disappointment after being shown the door at the end of the season, writes James Heneghan.

Bamber was asked to step down as manager after the Robins finished 11th in ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties Football League Division One.

The 35-year-old feels upset by the decision, saying: “I am very disappointed. I’ve put everything into that team and into that club to try and help them rebuild.

“I was washing the kit, booking all the training sessions, taking in the money, I was doing all the things that other people should have been doing.

“I’ve put so much into it and then all of a sudden I’ve been asked to step down as manager and I’m frustrated.

“I didn’t see it coming at all. We’ve just had the presentation night and that went quite well and everyone was talking about next season.

“We were planning to have a meeting but I wasn’t invited. From there the committee decided that my position wasn’t good enough to be first team manager any more.

“I’ve struggled all season to keep players but I managed to do that, and I’ve managed to get the players to gradually bond.

“I’m not going to cry over it. Vince, the chairman, and the others have made the decision for a reason and that’s what they’ve got to stick to.

“The players are disappointed, too, because they respect me as a person and a manager and I respect all of them.

“We’ve bonded and we were all looking forward to playing some good football next season.”

Bamber will be replaced by experienced former player Steve Orchard – see panel above – who has impressed with his vision for the future, and who will be bringing his own management team with him.

As for himself, Bamber is adamant that he wants to get back into football as soon as possible, adding: “I definitely want to get back into football and I will do.

“I will find a club because that’s what I like to do. I’m not too sure who but there are a few local clubs around so we’ll have to wait and see.”
