Brackley Town manager Jon Brady described his side’s performance after their crushing 5-0 defeat to rivals Oxford City as “embarrassing” and “not acceptable”.

Oxford followed up last Saturday’s win against Tamworth, ending the Lambs’ extraordinary 12 game winning streak, with a comprehensive defeat of Brackley despite losing their goalkeeper to a red card for the third successive game.

Mark Scott was sent off in the 39th minute with Declan Benjamin going in goal for the visitors, but Saints failed to capitalise on their advantage before they too were reduced to 10 men when Dwayne Samuels was sent off midway through the second half.

A frustrated Jon Brady said afterwards: “We have had good days and many high points over the last few seasons but today is a low point.

“I cannot express my disappointment at the all-round performance today. It was embarrassing. It was not acceptable.”

Top scorer Adi Yussuf gave City a deserved early lead, touching in Marlon Jackson’s low shot after the visitors started the game on the front foot as they immediately pressing Saints back.

Captain Darren Pond and Lee Henderson both went close to adding to the lead as Brackley struggled to find an attacking edge in a one-sided first half.

Saints briefly threatened a fightback after the break as Will Green hit the bar and David Moyo’s effort was blocked, but Oxford’s superiority brought a 66th minute second goal with Pond finishing smartly after a fine exchange of passing.

Brackley rarely tested Benjamin though Green forced a save before the visitors asserted their dominance to romp to a convincing victory.

Former Saints favourite Tom Winters came off the bench to add the third with a trademark free-kick before Yussuf tapped in Winters’ cross and Brackley’s misery was compounded in injury-time when Yussuf secured his hat-trick.

Saints are now five without a win and remain 15th in the Conference North having played more games than any of the teams below them.

Brackley now face away trips to Stalybridge Celtic and then Hednesford before the next home game against Stockport County.
