Buckingham Athletic’s indifferent start to the season continued with a 2-1 loss away at high-flying Broxbourne Borough at the weekend.
Athletic have won four and lost six of their opening 11 matches to lie 12th in South Midlands Football League Division One.
Damien Wiffin’s side made the ideal start at Broxbourne on Saturday when Simon King needed just 30 seconds to put Buckingham ahead.
The visitors held onto their advantage until the stroke of half time when two goals either side of the break turned the match on its head.
First, an effort from Anton Kostalas took a telling deflection and ended up in the back of the net, before a loose back pass allowed Kieran Bishop to calmly stroke the ball home for a 49th minute winner that keeps Broxbourne third in the table.
Buckingham Athletic are next in action when they visit Amersham town in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup on October 12 and don’t return to league action until October 22 when they host Risborough Rangers.
