Buckingham Athletic have confirmed the appointment of Mark Carter as the club’s new first team manager.

Following the resignation of Damien Wiffin, who stepped down due to work commitments, Athletic have decided appoint Carter, who was in charge of the club’s reserves side last season.

Carter will be assisted by Ryan Wiffin and Paul Hassel.

Buckingham chairman Tony Checkley said: “I am delighted that Mark has taken the position as first team manager – he has a great affiliation to the club and although new to senior football, he showed enough last season when looking after the reserves that he can take that next step up.

“We are also delighted that Ryan Wiffin has decided to stay with us – he is well respected by all the players and gives us that continuity from last season.

“Paul Hassel, who also has a great connection to the club, has also stepped up from the reserves and we believe that these three will make a great partnership in taking the club forward.”

Athletic completed the first team structure by confirming that Jason Liscum will continue as club physio alongside assistant Spike Marsden.

As for the youth team, Micky Marshall is set to come onboard as manager following the news that Matt Ogle is stepping down next season.

Checkley added: “I want to first express my disappointment that we are losing Matt who has been a massive asset to the club for many years.

“He has helped build a structure to the club where we have seen so many youth team players come through the ranks into the reserve and first team.

“Last season the reserves was mostly built on youth and it was great to see no less than four or five youth team players making their mark on the first team.

“This is all down to the hard work that Matt has put in over the years and for that we are extremely grateful and he will be missed.

“However, with Matt leaving these were going to be hard shoes to fill and being able to announce that Micky Marshall is his replacement does soften the blow.”

With the movement of Mark Carter and Paul Hassell, it means that there are vacancies at reserve team level and Athletic are currently in discussion with a number of people interested in those roles and they hope to make a decision shortly.

Buckingham also confirmed that their pre-season will start on June 23 and they hope to be announce pre-season friendly games soon along with a new club sponsor.
