Buckingham Athletic’s recent upturn in form continued this week when they picked up four points from two SSML Division One matches.
Athletic have spent much of the season floundering near the wrong end of the table, but Saturday’s excellent 1-0 win away at Baldock Town followed by an equally impressive 1-1 draw with high-flying Risborough Rangers on Tuesday has seen Buckingham rise to 14th.
Speaking after his side’s win at Baldock, where Nick Bennion scored the only goal of the game, Athletic assistant manager Ryan Wiffin said: “Saturday was a very good result. We defended brilliantly and from memory Hammo (Andy Hammond) was only forced into one save all afternoon.
“We always looked dangerous on the break and if we had have been more clinical with our finishing we really could have been out of sight.”
On Tuesday, 10-man Athletic came from 1-0 down against promotion hopefuls Risborough to earn a 1-1 draw and extend their unbeaten run to four games.
This weekend, Buckingham travel to FC Broxbourne Borough.
