Buckingham Town will face Brackley Town in the quarter-finals of the Buckingham Senior Charity Cup after beating neighbours Stony Stratford Town 2-0 in the preliminary round.
Ross Stone and Domenic Schembre were the Buckingham goalscorers to help Town overcome their local rivals and progress into the next round, where they’ll host Conference North side Brackley.
However, earlier in the week, the Robins were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by Aylesbury Dynamos in the County Cup.
Manager Neil Griffiths said afterwards: “We were very poor in the first half and the performance is not one any of us should come close to accepting.
“We went in only trailing 1-0 at the break. To defend the players, we saw a reaction in the second half and it was three poorly defended counter attacks against the run of play that gave the scoreline an emphatic and slightly unjust feel.
“It was a cup we had targeted so we are not happy with leaving it so early.”
Buckingham are in cup action again this weekend, with a trip to Berkhamsted Town in the second round of the FA Vase before hosting Wellingborough Town in the UCL Knock-out Cup next Tuesday.
