FOOTBALL: Former top players from Chelsea, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Derby County will be taking the management reigns of six U15 teams from Brackley, Buckingham, Banbury, Bicester and Hereford in a seven-a- side football competition at Brackley Town Football Club on Sunday week, May 15.

The event - billed as the first of its kind in the world - is the brainchild of former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher and Heroes Events Ltd.

Heroes Events are supporting the UK children’s enterprise, Street Kick, by holding a series of Football Legends’ events with the aim of raising £250,000 to enable them to open their first training centre.

Former Arsenal and England legend Kenny Sansom will be pitching his coaching skills against fellow legends John Hollins, Eddie McGoldrick, Roy McFarland, Kenny Burns and John O’Hare to become the first Street Kick Legends/Junior champions. The teams involved are from Brackley Town FC and Brackley Athletic, Buckingham Moretonville, Banbury United, Bicester Town Colts and Hereford Pegasus Juniors.

The aim of Street Kick is to take underprivileged children off our streets and help them kick start their lives with work based mentoring, development and training through a range of courses and workshops.

Dermot Gallagher said: “Most children have the right parental guidance and direction, but unfortunately there are children throughout the UK that don’t have this, Street Kick is a great enterprise that will give a child a chance to develop, install a bit of belief and hopefully save them from going in the wrong direction.

“Along with the management team behind Heroes Events, myself and a whole host of football legends are staging a series of events this year to work towards raising the initial funds required to help Street Kick open its first centre, with this tournament playing a major part in that fundraising effort”.

He added: “The Legends tournament at Brackley will be a great occasion and not to be missed. Not only do we have the games themselves, but the legends will take master classes in coaching, We will also be having autograph and photo opportunities.”
