FOOTBALL: Top players from yesteryear took the management reins of six U15 teams from Brackley, Buckingham, Banbury, Bicester and Hereford in a seven-a-side football tournament at Brackley Town FC last Sunday.
The well-attended Legends day attracted around 200 parents and members of the public to St James Park.
Former Arsenal and England player Kenny Sansom pitched his coaching skills against fellow legends John Hollins (ex-Chelsea), Eddie McGoldrick (ex-Crystal Palace), Roy McFarland (ex-Derby County), Kenny Burns (ex-Nottingham Forest) and John O’Hare (ex-Nottingham Forest) to become the first Legends junior champions in aid of Street Kick.
The teams involved were from Brackley Town FC, Brackley Athletic Jaffas, Buckingham Moretonville, Banbury United, Bicester Town Colts and Hereford Pegasus Juniors.
The final was fought out between Sansom’s Brackley Town U15s side and Hereford’s Pegasus team, the latter winning 1-0, managed by Kenny Burns.
Brackley Town chairman Sara Crannage said afterwards: “The Legends had a lovely day and were very impressed with the youngsters.
“It was such a success we are considering making it an annual event.
“I would like to say a big thank-you to all the volunteers who helped on the day to make it such a success.”
