ARDLEY United manager Kevin Brock has admitted that it has been a tough pre-season for the club but he hopes to add to his squad over the next week.
Despite suffering four defeats in five matches, Brock remains confident for the 2012/13 season.
He said: “Pre-season hasn’t been great so far, we’ve lost four of our five games but it’s no time to panic.
“We’ve played against teams from a higher level because I’d prefer a harder pre-season.
“We played well last week against Southam and we’ve played some good football so we’re getting there.”
After finishing third last season, Brock is hoping for another high finish but he knows it won’t be easy with difficult opposition.
He added: “In the time I’ve been here we’ve been up there in the top five every season but we’re not sure what to expect this year because there are some strong teams in the division.
“We’ll know a lot more after the first 10 games because that’s when it all takes shape but we want to be up there competing.”
Brock has also confirmed that he is looking to bring in some new signings before his side get their 2012/13 Hellenic League Premier Division campaign under way next Wednesday at Cheltenham Saracens.
He added: “We’ve lost Ryan Brooks and Nick Thorne, who are two big losses because they were important players for us after scoring 48 goals last season.
“It’s been hard work getting players in for whatever reason, sometimes it goes like that but we’ve managed to keep everyone else on.
“It’s frustrating and it’s been that sort of pre-season but I’m hoping to get a couple of new faces in before we start next Wednesday.”
Ardley play their final pre-season match this evening when they travel to Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division outfit Banbury United for a 7.45pm kick-off.
