Local football was badly hit by poor weather at the weekend with nearly every match cancelled due to heavy rain.

Winslow United’s first team game against Arlesey Town was postponed after a pitch inspection, meaning Perry Mercer’s side go into Christmas in ninth position in SSML Division One, with Buckingham Athletic three places further down as their match was also cancelled. This weekend the two sides face each other at Elmfields Gate in the first local derby of the season.

Elsewhere, Ardley United’s match at Highworth Town in the Hellenic Premier League was also postponed. Kevin Brock’s side remain top of the table despite not playing, four points clear of Ascot United.

There were several matches played in the North Bucks League, however, as Potterspury defeated Loughton Manor 7-3 to go third in the Premier Division, while Brackley Sports have gone top of the Intermediate Division thanks to a 3-1 away victory at Scot.

Other results from Saturday, December 21: Charlton 6-2 Wicken Sports Res, Great Hoewood Res 1-2 Stoke Hammond, Southcott 4-1 Potterspury Res, Sherington United 3-3 Syresham Res, Comet MK Res 1-0 Twyford United.
