Ardley United experienced a mixed week with Saturday’s thrilling 4-3 win over Abingdon United followed by a 5-0 defeat to North Leigh Reserves in the Floodlit Cup on Tuesday.
United made the perfect start against Abingdon when Jon Gardner fired into the top corner inside the first two minutes.
Although the visitors enjoyed more possession, Ardley were causing Abingdon problems with Joe Eyre and Troy Bryan doing well to set up Luke Ingram, who converted a simple chance to put his side two up at the break.
Two quickfire Anaclet Odihambo goals early in the second half made it 2-2, but Abingdon were on level terms for a matter of seconds as Ingram latched onto a poor back pass to slot home his second.
The game seesawed back and forth when Abingdon again equalised in the 70th minute, this time Odihambo turning provider for Tom Butler, but Ardley had the final say through Callum Convey’s 80th minute penalty.
Ardley are up to ninth in the Hellenic Premier Division and this week face Cheltenham Saracens.
