Mursley United are up to second in Spartan South Midlands Division Two after beating promotion rivals Kent Athletic 2-1 to leapfrog their opponents and keep right on the tail of leaders Hale Leys United.
Despite seeing Kent have a man sent off for a dangerous challenge inside 10 minutes, Mursley were unable to take advantage as the robust hosts had the better of a goalless first period.
Level at the break, the visitors were more effective in the second half and finally broke the deadlock with 15 minutes left. Mursley swung in a corner, the ball bounced loose and Ben Brill was first to react as he poked the ball into the net.
Kent hit back, though, and were level within five minutes when substitute Nield carried the ball forward and tucked a shot past Jordan McKechnie into the corner of the goal.
The winner came in the dying moments as good work down the left involving Pat Crouch and Andy Brown saw the ball delivered into the box where Jamie Parker pounced to seal a vital victory that puts Mursley level on points with the leaders.
