Mursley’s promotion hopes dented by draw

Mursley United’s promotion bid took a blow at the weekend with a disappointing 2-2 home draw against Tring Corinthians.

Following a scrappy start on a bumpy pitch, Mursley settled into the game and began to test the visiting goalkeeper, but just as it seemed the hosts were getting one top, a punt downfield from Tring saw Harris break free and slot beneath Dean Trowbridge for the opening goal.

Undeterred, Murdsley hit back on 31 minutes when Wayne Bell fed Andy Cleere and he burst into the box to net the equaliser, but Tring went into half time 2-1 head after Harris scored his second.

Mursley totally dominated the second half as their quick football undid Tring time and again and they were rewarded on 60 minutes when Pat Crouch slotted the equaliser.

Although Mursley had chances through Steve Mooney, Crough and Bell, they were unable to find the crucial third goal as the game ended level, which saw United drop to fourth in SSML Division Two.

United host fifth-placed Pitstone and Ivinghoe for a 2pm kick-off this weekend.
