It’s been a long time coming but Winslow United have finally bagged their first home win of the current season when they beat Risborough Rangers 3-0 in monsoon like conditions at Elmfields Gate.

Rangers had lots of possession throughout but Winslow defended resolutely and attacked with ruthless efficiency with new centre-back pairing Ryan Freshwater and John Mullholland thwarting anything the visitors could throw at them, while Lloyde Barzey grabbed a hat-trick.

The few times Risborough did find a way through the home defence, they found United goalkeeper Brad Kirkwood in defiant form.

Barzey’s first goal came on just nine minutes when he turned his marker and fired low past goalkeeper Steve Clark for a lead which Winslow held onto until the break.

Despite torrential rain making conditions difficult, both sides had chances throughout the second half but it was two late goals from Barzey that sealed Winslow’s second win of the SSML Division Two campaign.

Manager Scott Reynolds said afterwards: “We finally put the losing run to an end! Our first clean sheet of the season and three well taken goals.

“We didn’t have a lot of the ball but we did defend like warriors and were determined not to let them back into the game at any stage.

“There were a few stand out performances, Brad in goal, Ollie was outstanding in the middle of the park, Lloyde with his hat trick, but all the lads were superb.”

Winslow are away to Codicote this weekend.
