Vinny Shrieves hit a first half hat-trick as Winslow United notched their first SSML Division One victory of 2014 with a 5-2 triumph at Amersham Town on Saturday.

Winslow have constantly been thwarted by bad weather so far this year, but they finally got their campaign back on track this weekend.

Amersham started brightly, hitting the bar in just the second minute, but Winslow grew into the game as Drew Mitten fired an effort over before setting up United’s opener when his low cross was turned in by Shrieves.

Although Amersham hit back with two goals in quick succession, Winslow remained the superior team and levelled through Shrieves’ smart finish from Hateley Mercer’s free-kick, before the striker completed his hat-trick with half-time still to come.

Nine minutes after the break, Ryan Freshwater’s exquisite through ball was turned in by Claude Seanla, who then wrapped up victory with his second and Winslow’s fifth.

Winslow are back in action tomorrow night when they visit Codicote.
