Ardley United continued their excellent start to the season with victory over promotion rivals Reading Town on Tuesday evening.
Kevin Brock’s side remain unbeaten and leap to third in the Hellenic Premier Division, two points off top with a game in hand.
Reading began well and forced Ardley’s debutant goalkeeper, Tom McNamara, into action in the first minute as Graham Lewis caused the home defence problems on the left.
Ardley weathered the storm, though, and gradually imposed themselves on the game before taking the lead on 27 minutes when a diagonal ball found Ryan Brooks in the penalty area and he fired past Nathan Silver for his 16th league goal.
The home side remained on top until half time and then again after the break, but failed to add to their lead until two minutes from time when Steve Howkins burst into the area and was fouled, resulting in a penalty that Callum Convey dispatched.
With 6 minutes of time added, Reading threw everything forward, and got one goal back through Frankie Boamah’s precise finish, but it proved to be too little too late as Ardley held on to claim another three points.
United face a top-of-the-table clash at Oxford City Nomads this weekend.
