Michael Vergers will drive for the Buckingham-based Sheshon Racing in the 2013 Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone.
Vergers is well-known for competing in Formula Ford 1600 having finished second in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch back in 1989 behind Nico Pahalres and ahead of David Coulthard. Vergers has raced in the Le Mans 24-Hour Race and in many GT events and is set to return to his FF1600 roots once more for this year’s category showcase event at Silverstone in three weks time.
The Dutch racer, now living in Oxford, said: “Formula Ford 1600 is still the best racing around and I have been fortunate to have been able to keep coming back to where I learned the skills that have helped me in my racing career. The Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone has replaced the big FF1600 event, the Festival at Brands Hatch. Both tracks make for great racing and spectating, but I think Silverstone National is ideally suited for FF1600.
“When I got the message that Sheshon Racing asking if I was available for the Walter Hayes Trophy I jumped at the opportunity. I hadn’t organised anything for this year as I have work commitments abroad, but I have pushed these to the side and am now looking forward to jumping aboard the Sheshon Racing Van Diemen RF78.
“I do have a lot of pressure as I have to follow in the wheel tracks of both Neil Cunningham and Joey Foster who have both had superb success in the car at the WHT previously. I have had my fair share of success at the Walter Hayes Trophy with John Loebell’s Medina Motorsport, but am now really looking forward to my new challenge with Sheshon Racing.”
Tickets for the Walter Hayes Trophy on November 2-3, the world’s most important Formula Ford event, can be purchased via the official Silverstone website: www.silverstone.co.uk
