Winslow United were undone by two late goals after they were seemingly on course to shock SSML Division One leaders Bedford at the weekend.
The league’s leading goalscorer, Drew Mitten, was back in the Winslow starting line-up as United started brightly with Mitten shooting inches wide.
Derek Brown headed George Shrieves’ corner just over as Winslow remained on top but were unable to find the breakthrough in the opening half.
Claude Seanla went close with a volley shortly after the restart but Bedford then seized control and had chances to open the scoring.
However, it was the visitors who took the lead when Brown headed home Jakub Kasprzyk’s free-kick.
The league leaders responded well, though, and equalised within two minutes as the Chris Johnson beat Owusu Boeteng.
Both sides had chances to win it, with Ash Farmer putting an effort over for Winslow, but Bedford stole victory in the dying moments as Johnson netted his second.
Winslow, who are eighth in SSML Division One, host Arlesey Town Reserves this weekend.
