Football: Brackley beaten at Hemel

Brackley Town travel to Zamaretto Premier Division high fliers Chesham United this Saturday looking to get among the goals and pick up some much needed points after a disappointing start to the season.

A narrow 1-0 defeat at Hemel Hempstead Town on Tuesday following a goalless draw against Cambridge City in their opening home fixture last Saturday wasn't the launchpad to the season Saints boss Jon Brady was hoping for.

His reshaped side of new recruits has yielded just one point from the six on offer so far, albeit in the face of decent opposition.

A lack of goalscoring punch is one area he will need to address with new striker Steve Basham still out injured and Joe Magunda not due to return until the fourth game after serving a three-match ban carried over from last season.

Against Hemel, one of a quartet of leaders at the top of the table, Brackley fielded the same starting eleven as against Cambridge City.

In monsoon rain and atrocious conditions, Brackley trailed at half-time to a well-taken goal by Hemel's new centre-forward Dennis Fenemore on 33 minutes.

In a better second half Saints fought back and a series of late corners finally put the Hemel goal under pressure. With Jamie Gould's surging runs down the left and an increasing threat from Tom Winters and Kwesi Appia the home side wobbled but Brackley could not find an equaliser and Hemel held out to claim their second win of the new season.

Against Cambridge defender Josh Green was outstanding in his first game of the season and Owen Story was in good form but Brackley couldn't break down the sturdy City defence.

This Saturday Brackley visit newly promoted Chesham in search of a first goal and a first win of the new campaign, kick-off 3pm.

Brackley Town (against Hemel) : Turley, Bignot, Blackwood (Gould 65), Quinn, Willmott, J.Green, Story (Palmer 65), Challinor, Bradley (Appia 45), .Green, Winters.

Hemel: Mike McEntegart, Wharton, Parsons, Thomas, Butler, Matt McEntegart, May, Wilson (O'Sullivan 17), Fenemore (Blake 82), Lafayette (Wylie 74), Goss.
