Football: Robins outgunned by Harborough
After losing five-goal thrillers on consecutive Saturdays, the Robins will be hoping for a change in fortunes over the Bank Holiday with a double-header against Rothwell Town and Huntingdon Town in the league and cup.
For Buckingham, it was the same old story at Ford Meadow last weekend as they were made to pay for three first-half defensive errors in a 3-2 defeat by a lively Harborough Town outfit.
Despite a second half rally which saw goals from James Bishop and Kyle Stimpson in the UCL Division One contest, the Robins again finished out of the points.
Boss Phil Simons was horrified at the first half performance, calling it the "worst he'd seen since he took over."
Both sides created chances in a scrappy first half-an-hour, Jared Cunniff excelling in midfield for the Robins and Pat Diamond making some good runs from the back. But Harborough were looking increasingly dangerous as they made forays upfield and after 35 minutes Matt Gamble put them 1-0 up with a header from a floated cross from the right.
Five minutes later Harborough skipper Tom Robson converted from the penalty spot after a Buckingham player brought down an opponent in the home box.
Buckingham's misery was completed just before half-time when Ben Barton struck a low shot past Crocombe for a 3-0 scoreline.
The Robins came out pumped up after the break after some stern words from Simons and with the introduction of substitute Ben Curley found a rhythm about their game.
In the 54th minute Bishop pounced to make it 3-1 and then Curley raced down the right wing and his pinpoint low cross found the unmarked Kyle Stimpson, who fired home for 3-2.
Buckingham kept up the pace with Gianfranco Amoroso pulling the strings in midfield as they searched for the draw but couldn't find a way through.
Buckingham: Crocombe, Cross, Diamond, Menday, Matthews, Amoroso, Bines, Cunniff, Bishop, Stimpson, Robson. Substitute: Curley.
Phil Simons said: "We badly lost our way in the first half and I was embarrassed. At half time I told the players in no uncertain manner what they needed to do and they went out and played a lot better, deserving a draw in the end."
Buckingham host Rothwell Town tomorrow, Saturday, in the league, kick-off 3pm and travel to Huntingdon Town next Tuesday for a League Cup preliminary round tie, kick off 7.45pm.
