GOLF: With the competition season now in full swing at Buckingham Golf Club, 57 competitors entered the midweek Stableford on March 9. Nigel Franklin was victorious with 37 points followed by six golfers on 36. After countback, Chris Bullin emerged in second place with David Dale third.
Last Friday, 45 senior golfers headed out to compete for the Tony Buckland Trophy. Restricted to using only three clubs and a Putter, the lovely weather inspired some excellent scores. The final result was: 1st Bill McNichol,with 37 points beating Bob Berry on countback with Vic Fussell third on 36.
Incorporated in the competition was the ‘Highland Park Whiskey’ Putting competition, the winner being the player with the least putts overall. The victor was John Veglio with 32 putts for the 18 holes.
Last Saturday saw 81 men take part in the second leg of the season-long Dr Stableford competition. Tim Kirtley won with an excellent 43 points. Sneaking out from behind the bar, club steward Scott Parker came second with 41 points beating Tony Stanford on countback.
The third leg of the competition took place on Sunday with the winner being Frank Hunter with 42 points. Bill Blundell’s 39 was good enough for second place beating Dave Howell into third on countback.

Results were: Division One,winner Mike Evans with an admirable net 61; runner-up Ed Taylor with a net 66; Division Two, winner-Alex Crisp with a net 63, runner-up Colin Marsterson with a net 66.
This week the seniors will be showing their dexterity with DIY as well as golf as the clubhouse is prepared for the coming season.
