Silverstone played host to a three-hour race for the Avon Tyres British GT Championship last weekend and this weekend the local track will see 60 GT cars racing in the British round of the Blancpain Endurance Series.
The famous Le Mans-winning Ecurie Ecosse team scored victory in the British GT race, and now the Blancpain Endurance Series will take centre stage at the local track.
The Blancpain series started last month at the Monza track in Italy and this weekend’s Silverstone encounter rewards series organisers with their largest ever entry for the European series.
The race at Silverstone will boast a number of Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes, McLaren, Nissan and Porsche cars on-track for a three-hour event.
In Italy, it was a Ferrari that scored a popular home victory, with Davide Rigon, Daniele Zampieri and Cesar Ramos driving a Kessel Racing 458 Italia to victory.
They were followed home in the race by two McLaren MP4-12C cars from the ART Grand Prix team.
Race action – including events for Auto GP, Formula Renault and Lamborgini Super Trofeo – is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
Elsewhere, the Champion of Brands for Formula Ford 1600 starts at Brands Hatch this weekend.
A large 24 car entry will line-up for the race around the 1.2-mile Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.
Kevan McLurg will race his Van Diemen RF00, a car that receives support from Buckingham’s Team Fox Racing.
The race is a qualifying round of the Cubik Cunningham Cup – the national FF1600 series.
