GREAT Horwood 1st XI moved up to sixth in Division One after picking up 29 points with a 43-run victory against Hook Norton.
Batting first, skipper Sam Willett and Matt McStraw batted cautiously to build a platform and put on 60 for the first wicket.
Despite losing McStraw, Willett and Tim Hudson continued to capitalise on the good start before the latter lost his wicket.
That brought 17-year-old Dale Armitage to the crease and the scoring picked up as Willett struck an excellent 66.
Armitage was performing well beyond his years and his unbeaten 45 helped Horwood amass 216-6 from 45 overs.
With a full strength bowling attack, Horwood were on course for their first win of the season after an early burst from Adam Armitage.
McStraw (3-33) and Neil Watkins (4-50) then bowled in tandem during the middle overs as they ripped the Norton batting line-up apart.
Despite some late runs, Horwood recorded a comfortable victory when Hook Norton closed on 173-9.
This Saturday, Great Horwood 1st XI face a local derby at Westbury.
