Winslow United 2
Wokingham & Emmbrook 1 AET
Winslow set up a mouthwatering FA Vase First Round Proper tie with local rivals Buckingham Town after seeing off Wokingham in extra time in this second round qualifier.
Phil Martin sealed victory for United in the 113th minute with his second headed goal of the game to seal victory over the Hellenic Premier Division side ranked two leagues above.
Luke Lee put the visitors in front in the 36th minute last Saturday and were looking the better side until South Midlands Division Two outfit Winslow raised their game, Martin levelling on the stroke of half time with a header into the far corner from a fine James Brown cross.
United created more chances after the break through Simon King, Lee Dawson and Martin but the game went to extra time.
Substitute Max Brooks had a half chance for Winslow as the hosts upped the tempo but it wasn’t until seven minutes from the end that the deadlock was finally broken, Martin heading home from a King corner to the delight of the home supporters.
Winslow will now host UCL Division One side Buckingham in the next round of the Vase on Saturday October 22.
United boss Damien Wiffin said: “We showed a lot of character and played some of our best football this season in extra time to win the day.
“It was a good all round team effort and we’ve now beaten higher ranked sides twice.
“I’ll be looking forward to our Vase tie later this month against Buckingham Town and hopefully the game will generate a lot of local interest.”
