RUNNING: With an eye to making her marathon debut in London next year, Linda Lytollis made her intentions clear by setting a new age-category record for Silverstone-based Silston Joggers at the Bedford Harrier’s half marathon last Sunday.
A time of one hour 43 mins 33 secs saw Lytollis slice 2 mins 24 secs off the existing F40 club half marathon record, a mark which had stood since 2007. Remarkably, this is the ninth club record that Lytollis has set, a tally that features a clean sweep in distances from the mile to the half marathon in the F35 category.
With the speedy Scot moving up an age category, the smart money is on more records falling as she sets about the existing marks next season.
Also competing for Silson were Andrew Rigby, finishing in 1:55:59, and veteran athlete Dave Jarrett, sneaking inside two hours with his 1:59:05 clocking.
The mild weekend tempted an impressive field of 1,460 athletes out looking for late season personal bests. At the sharp end of the race it was Matthew Janes of Bedford and County AC who took the win by 52sec in 68 mins 6secs.
