THERE was an excellent turnout at last Friday’s Bicester Athletics Club summer awards presentation evening held at Bicester Rugby Club.

The U17 track and club male athlete award went to Edward Burgess, who was a national grade 1 performer at the 110m hurdles with his finest performance of the summer coming in the English Schools Championships where he was just pipped for a medal.

It was an excellent season for the U11 girls as Holly Griffiths Brown earned the field athlete of the year while the boys award went to Tom Couzens.

Jess Cherry picked up the
U15 field event award and brother Jake Cherry took the
U13 award.

Jess broke a long standing club record by putting the shot for a mark of 8.91m (national grade 3) while Jake produced a 23m javelin effort as well as throwing the discus 18.66m.

The U13 girl track performer of the year was Rhiannon Penfold, who achieved national grade 4 performances in four track events.

Connor Wilce had a superb summer in the long jump, which was good enough to earn him the male U15 field performance of the year award.

Mark Smith’s summer was ruined by injury but he was still able to produce national grade performances in the 400 and 800m and earn the U15 track performer of the year.

Other award winners were as follows: Ellis Griffiths Brown, Millie Couzens, Joe Liddicott , Williams Sims, Jesiah Edwards, Molly Acton, Maisie Silvester, Amy Gould, Alice Daniel, Ellie Laurie, Lewys Jones, Owen Cox, Annie Jankowiak, Kathryn Langley, Tom Gould, Emily Benfield, Orla Welby and Jack Clement.
