Bicester L1s are sixth in Trysports Three Counties Premier One after a 1-1 draw with Henley IIs.
In their last match before Christmas, Bicester were keen to finish on a high as, after several brilliant attacking plays up both wings, and a number of shots on goal, Gina Girvan found space to fire a superb ball into the attacking D which rebounded in off Henley’s keeper, making the score 1-0 at half time.
However, Henley came back into the game in the second half and the Bicester defence had to hold firm to repel numerous attacks, but a late goal earned the visitors a point.
Meanwhile, Bicester M2s crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season, a 7-1 drubbing at home to West Hampstead M6s.
The home team started brightly, giving little indication of the spectacular collapse that was to come, and created two or three good chances in the first 15 minutes.
But the visitors responded well, carving out an excellent opening goal before stunning Bicester with six further strikes with only Justin Temple on the score sheet for Bicester.
Captain James Pilgrim said: “It’s difficult to know what to say after a performance like that. It just wasn’t good enough - we made far too many basic mistakes and if we play like that again we’ll be a long way from the top half of the table, which is where we’re aiming to be at the end of the season.”
