Bicester have won promotion to the Southern Counties North after they were handed a walkover win against Farnham Royal last weekend.
After battling against relegation throughout last season, Bicester only required victory to secure a top two spot in the BBO Premier and with Farnham unable to raise a side, their promotion was confirmed and they will now play in the same division as local rivals Buckingham.
At the club’s end of season awards, Dave Behan was rewarded for his fine season as he was named Bicester’s Player of the Year and Captain’s Player of the Year, while Ryan Gallacher and Jamie Stevens picked up Players’ Player and Coach’s Player respectively.
Elsewhere, the IIs finished their season with a 31-19 victory at High Wycombe to confirm their status in BBO Division Two for another season.
Bicester took the game straight to Wycombe and went ahead with seven minutes on the clock when James Holton sped under the posts for a try after fine work from Marcus Linfoot on the left.
Will Howard converted before the visitors extended their lead as Holton helped send winger Dan Power hurtling over in the right hand corner for a second try.
Bicester continued to take the game to the home side and they grabbed a third try just moments later when Aaron Leorton combined with Phil Small and Francois Blin raced under the posts.
The bonus-point try soon followed as a superb handling move saw Small touching down, before Wycombe finally breached the visiting defence through Brian Simon’s try on the stroke of half-time.
In the second period, Wycombe reduced the arrears when Anthony Farthing dotted down for a second try, converted by Jack Tolhurst, and they then cut the Bicester lead to just seven as Patrick Aunula crossed and Tolhurst again added the extras.
The visitors, needing victory to guarantee safety, held their nerve in the final half hour and increased their lead through Blin’s second try before remaining resolute for the final quarter to claim a hard-earned victory.
