Bicester Blue Fins have collected their first gold medal of the 2014 County Championships that take place over four weekends in February and March at the Bletchley and Aylesbury Pools.
The improving Bicester squad entered its largest relay contingent this year with 46 swimmers across three age groups competing in the 200m individual medley and freestyle relay events.
In the boys 200m medley relay, the 11/12 A team of Oliver Inness, William Whitley, Freddie Ashley-Sparks and Ethan Miranda-Gale had an outstanding swim to take the gold medal by 4.5 seconds. They also won bronze in the freestyle relay, matched by the 13/14 team of Tom Thornley, Callum Laird, Kieran Bird and Ryan Cattle who finished third in the freestyle.
Blue Fins head coach, Struan McNeil, said: “This was the perfect start to our county championships campaign. The 11 and 12 year old boys were great and to become country age group champions by such a winning margin is everything they deserved.”
