Brackley RUFC’s indifferent start to the season continued with a last-gasp 32-29 defeat to Northampton Casuals.
Having raced to 22-0 after 30 minutes, Brackley endured the agony of seeing that advantage overturned in a dramatic and action-packed second half.
It was a frustrating end to a match which had begun promisingly for Brackley, with Nick Tustain plunging over for their first try after Mike Lowdell had opened the scoring with a penalty.
Wing Paul Brinklow was next on the scoreboard with a try in the corner, converted by Lowdell, before Tustain broke through the Casuals defence for his second try.
With halftime beckoning, Casuals got themselves back in the game when a quick tap penalty resulted in a try.
A yellow card to Matt Lowe at the start of the second half handed Northampton the initiative and the visitors ran in four tries in succession to take the lead for the first time in the match, but Tustain completed a hat-trick and Lowdell converted to seemingly clinch victory for Brackley.
However, a wayward passage of play gifted Northampton a last-minute to seal an unlikely victory.
