In a long-awaited local derby, Buckingham IIs strengthened their grip at the top of Trysports Premier One with a 3-0 victory at home to Bicester L1s.

Having won all seven matches going into the game, Buckingham took an early lead when Fi Farley scored a fine individual goal before Andrea Freshwater converted a short corner from a Charlie Coumbe strike.

Bicester rallied and held their own against opponents who average six goals a game this season with Ella West going closest for the visitors in the first half.

Despite Freshwater scoring her second and Buckingham’s third, the home side were frustrated by some resilient Bicester defending in the second period, led by Lucy Birtles, as goalkeeper Jo Underhill produced a number of excellent stops to keep the score at three.

This weekend, Buckingham face a crunch top-of-the-table clash away at Reading IIs, who have also won every game this season, while sixth-placed Bicester host Bracknell.
