Buckingham LHC’s first team recorded a vital and well-deserved 2-1 win at Firebrands in the Conference West at the weekend.
The visitors made a lively start and opened the scoring inside three minutes when Katrina Nicholson fired home.
Buckingham’s excellent work-rate and passing continued to put the home side under significant pressure, which told in the ninth minute when Leanne Grimsley was on hand to finish a well-worked routine to put the visitors two ahead.
Buckingham threatened to pull away as they remained well on top, playing some excellent passing hockey, but poor finishing was punished by Firebrands with a goal midway through the first half.
It was all Buckingham throughout the second half and despite again wasting several chances, they held on to secure a thoroughly deserved three points. Kitty Higgins was picked as Player of the Match.
This weekend Buckingham, who are a point behind leaders Slough in the Conference West, return to Stowe for a home game against Barnes at midday.
