Buckingham IIs remain top

Buckingham Ladies IIs faced a tough fixture on their return to action this week, but a strong team performance saw them overcome title rivals Oxford Hawks 3-1.

The visitors made a slow start and Oxford took advantage by taking the lead, but that shook Buckingham into life as they won a number of short corners before drawing level through attacker Fiona Farley.

With the defence working hard, Buckingham withstood Oxford’s attacking pressure and came back with more energy in the second half with Laura Grossic touching in Jaz Needham’s well-struck shot to give the visitors the lead before the points were sealed when Farley scored from close range.

Buckingham remain top of the league by one point over Wokingham, who travel to Stowe this weekend for a top-of-the-table clash.
