BUCKINGHAM Ladies 1st XI remained top of the Ivestec Women’s Conference after a fine 3-0 away win at fourth-placed Barnes Hounslow Ealing.
The visitors made an excellent start to the game – taking the lead inside five minutes.
Captain Katrina Nicholson used her pace in midfield to break through the Barnes defence and then combine well with Zoe Shipperley to find in-form striker Jess Bloom in the circle, whose calm reserve stick shot gave Buckingham the lead.
The home side pressed hard and impose themselves on the game, but Buckingham’s defence, led by Most Valuable Player Kitty Higgins, dealt with the attacks – denying them any real opportunities to level the score.
And the lead was soon doubled when Sam Sandham clinically finished a well-executed short corner routine.
After the break, Buckingham continued to apply pressure and dominate much of the possession and territory.
Midway through the half, Nicholson skilfully rounded a number of Barnes defenders before slipping the ball into the goal to seal the win.
Buckingham are on the road again tomorrow when they travel west to face second-placed Gloucester in what promises to be a tough encounter.
