Bicester Athletics Club, in partnership with North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership and Bicester Community College, organised the annual Bicester Area Primary Cross Country with a record 11 primary schools and 611 children taking part.

There was keen competition for the team event with several primary schools challenging for the Bicester AC shield, presented to the school with the best overall record in the competition, which went to Bure Park Primary Schools, who wrested the overall title from reigning champions Langford Primary.

Bure Park also dominated the Year 1 and 2 events, as Sophie Shaw and Holly Keeble finished first and second respectively, ahead of Brookside’s Hollie Offord in third. In the boy’s event, there was further success for Bure Park with Xander Cameron winning from Kian Duggan (Fritwell) and Finlay Hennessy (Brookside).

Millie Couzens, one of Bicester’s most promising young athletes, recorded Bure Park’s third victory of the day in the Year 5 and 6 girl’s event. She finished ahead of runner-up Lottie Whyne Jones (Langford Village) and Rushani Arumugham (St Mary’s). Fritwell’s Connor Duggan beat Charlie Smith (Kings Meadow) and Thomas Kavanagh (Chesterton) in the boy’s event.

Michael Cadle, from Longfields, recorded one of the easiest fixtures in the Year 3 and 4 competition, as he saw off Langford’s Elliot Hayes and Oliver Webb, while Chesterton’s moment of the day came from Carmen Kirk-Soriano, who beat Fritwell’s Annie Bowler and Bure Park’s Bella Couzens in the girl’s event.
