BICESTER’S Daza Usher put in a sparkling performance last Saturday at the GL1 Leisure centre in Gloucester when he won every round against experienced Billy Smith in a four round lightweight bout.
Smith, from Worcester, massively experienced in his 132nd contest, used all of his knowledge to make Usher work extremely hard for his victory.
Usher said: “He was easily the most skilful opponent I’ve fought so far as a professional. He knows all the tricks on the inside and is very slick when manoeuvring around the ring”
Usher had to train around an injured leg on the way to capturing his third paid win.
“My preparations were restricted by the leg. I did less running and more swimming and it paid off.”
Although he will be fighting again in Swindon on the September 8, Usher is eager to bring professional boxing back to Oxford.
He added: “It has been fifty years since the last professional boxing card was held in the city. With myself and Witney’s Steve Mullins coming through as professionals, I’d love to fight in Oxford.”
